DIALOGUE: Two friends at the office

Alex: Hi, Elena! You are early today. Was the traffic okay?

Elena: Surprisingly, yes! I am happy because the bus was on time.

Alex: Lucky you. I am tired of driving. My car is comfortable, but the traffic jams are terrible.

Elena: That is the main disadvantage. When I am on the subway, it is faster. Also, it is cheaper than gas.

Alex: True. But they are usually very crowded, right?

Elena: Yes, they are. That is the downside. Yesterday, we were like sardines in a tin! But overall, it is better for the environment.

Alex: You’re right. Maybe I am ready to sell my car and try the bus.

1. Pronombres Personales (Personal Pronouns)

Los pronombres reemplazan a las personas o cosas para indicar quién realiza la acción. En inglés, siempre debemos usarlos (no existe el “sujeto tácito”).

Pronombre	Significado	Uso
I	Yo	Siempre se escribe con mayúscula.
You	Tú / Usted / Ustedes	Se usa igual para singular y plural.
He	Él	Para hombres.
She	Ella	Para mujeres.
It	Ello (Cosa / Animal)	Para objetos, lugares o animales genéricos.
We	Nosotros / Nosotras	Incluye a quien habla.
They	Ellos / Ellas	Plural de personas, animales o cosas.

2. El Verbo “To Be” (Ser o Estar)

Es el verbo más importante en inglés porque cumple doble función: ser (identidad, profesión) y estar (ubicación, estado de ánimo).

Formas en Presente Simple:

Am: Exclusivo para “I”.
Is: Para la tercera persona singular (He, She, It).
Are: Para las formas plurales y “You” (You, We, They).

3. Estructuras Prácticas y Ejemplos

Para estudiantes adultos, es ideal practicar con situaciones reales como presentaciones personales o laborales.

Presentación: I am a student. (Yo soy un estudiante).
Estado de ánimo: I am happy. (Yo estoy feliz).
Ubicación: We are at school. (Nosotros estamos en la escuela).
Descripción: She is my sister. (Ella es mi hermana).

Tip para el aula (Contracciones):

En el habla diaria se usan las formas cortas para sonar más natural:

I am → I’m
You are → You’re
He is → He’s
It is → It’s
