Act 1: Immigration Control (PDI)
Officer Gomez: Good morning. Passports and immigration forms, please.
Mr. Brooks: Good morning, officer. Here you go. These are our three British passports.
Officer Gomez: Thank you. What is the purpose of your visit to Chile?
Mr. Brooks: We are here for vacations. We are staying a few days in Santiago and then flying south to Patagonia.
Officer Gomez: Perfect. How long will you be staying in the country?
Mrs. Brooks: We will be in Chile for a total of two weeks.
Officer Gomez: Great. Miss Lily Brooks, you are 15 years old, correct?
Lily: Yes, sir. I turned 15 last month.
Officer Gomez: Welcome to Chile! Here are your passports and your PDI tourist cards. Keep those papers safe; you will need them when you leave the country.
Mr. Brooks: Thank you very much, officer.
Act 2: Customs and SAG Inspection
Inspector Silva: Hello. Please place all your suitcases and backpacks on the X-ray machine. Did you fill out the Joint Customs-SAG Declaration Form?
Mrs. Brooks: Yes, we filled it out online before boarding our flight from Manchester. Here is the QR code on my phone.
Inspector Silva: Excellent. Are you bringing any plant or animal products, fruits, seeds, or traditional food from the UK?
Lily: Oh! I have an apple in my backpack for a snack. Is that a problem?
Inspector Silva: Yes, Lily. Thank you for telling me. It is forbidden to enter Chile with fresh fruits to protect our local agriculture. You must leave the apple in this disposal bin or declare it on the form.
Mr. Brooks: We completely understand. Please throw it away. We don’t want any trouble.
Inspector Silva: Thank you for being honest. Since you declared it, there is no fine. Your baggage is clear. Welcome to Santiago!
Mrs. Brooks: Thank you! Now, let’s look for a taxi to take us to the Stanford Hotel.
